Across State Lines: Eric Dick Wins USL Championship Goalkeeper of the Year

It’s the season of year end awards for leagues in the United States as many of the leagues wind down and crown their champions. One former Kansas City player has brought home an individual award as former Sporting KC goalkeeper and KC native, Eric Dick was named the USL Championship’s Goalkeeper of the Year. In 26 appearances in 2024 for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, Dick recorded a goals against average of .69 and 14 shutouts on the season. for the goalkeeper.

Another former Sporting KC player was also announced today as the league’s Defender of the Year as Graham Smith claimed that award as a member of the Charleston Battery. Both Dick and Smith were named to the league’s Best XI first team along with former Sporting HomeGrown Player, Wilson Harris with Louisville City. On the second team was former Sporting academy player and Swope Park Ranger, Ezra Armstrong.

In other news involving former players in the USL Championship, former KC Wizard, Eric Quill is leaving his post with New Mexico United to join FC Dallas as the club’s new head coach. Quill had previously been the head coach of the club’s MLS Next Pro side.
