Across State Lines: Thompson Helps Spokane to USL1 Final

Published

on

The USL League 1 playoffs have reached the finals and both teams will have representation from Kansas City. Brooks Thompson with the Spokane Velocity and Mechack Jerome with Union Omaha. Jerome will not be participating as he is still recovering from the explosion at his house a couple weeks ago. Thompson though has been a key factor for Spokane in their run to the final. The seventh seeded Velocity beat the second seeded Norther Colorado Hailstorm in the quarterfinals 3-0. Thompson kept his shutout streak going in the semifinals as they beat the three seed, Forward Madison on penalty kicks after a 0-0 draw. Thompson saved one penalty in the shootout as Spokane won the shootout 5-4. It’s the second year in a row Thompson has been a key figure for a team making a run to the USL1 finals. Last year he was on North Carolina FC for their run to win the USL1 championship in a shootout over the Charlotte Independence.

Also this week, another former KC player is out of a coaching position as the Chicago Fire announced this past week that they’d parted ways with former Sporting KC midfielder, Paulo Nagamura. The move is part of the Fire’s continued remaking of their technical staff with the hiring of Gregg Berhalter.

Here’s the rest of this week’s update.
