Across State Lines: Players Start Announcing Their Departures

US league seasons are starting to wind down as playoffs are starting for most of the professional leagues. With that, the teams that didn’t make the playoffs, or teams that are already eliminated are starting to make their end of season roster moves. While teams may not be making them public yet, with social media, players have started to make some of the news public. Last weekend, during MLS Decision Day, former Sporting Designated Player, Diego Rubio posted on Twitter his goodbye to the Colorado Rapids during the Rapids’ 1-0 loss to Real Salt Lake. Rubio had been with the Rapids since 2019 when Sporting traded him to there in exchange for Kelyn Rowe and allocation as part of a three team trade with the New England Revolution. He’ll depart the Rapids as their fourth leading scorer all time with 38 goals over his five seasons with the club.

Then yesterday on Twitter, former Sporting KC academy player and Sporting KC II player, Jahon Rad posted his goodbye to the Sporting organization as well. Rad joined the academy with his twin brother Kaveh Rad in 2016. Since 2018 he’s been making appearances for Sporting KC II, first on an academy contract before signing a professional contract ahead of the 2021 season. Last year he was named Sporting KC II’s player of the year.
