Peter Vermes gives a shoutout to the haters
Peter Vermes went right for his doubters after Sporting KC’s 3-1 Decision Day win over MNUFC.
It is decided! After an emphatic 3-1 Decision Day win that put Sporting KC in the MLS Cup Playoffs, Peter Vermes went right for his doubters. He did it on the field speaking to the stadium, in the Cauldron’s postgame party, and again in his press conference.
Many people will roll their eyes at the idea of taking a victory lap for an 8th place finish. But that isn’t what Vermes is celebrating.
Peter Vermes spent about 3 minutes 30 seconds on addressing the doubters, who he says probably weren't there, the team's belief, ownership's commitment and tonight's performance. Here's the portion on tonight's win. #SportingKC pic.twitter.com/SBVJ5qToof

He saw the signs this season. He heard the chants of Vermes Out. He took all the criticism… and he kept the receipts. Even in the darkest of days at the beginning of the season, Vermes remained confident they would turn things around with a full-strength roster.
And he was right.
“It’s not like I woke up one day and forgot how to coach.”
On this episode of Shades of Blue (For All the Haters), we listen to postgame audio from Peter Vermes and debate whether it’s a bad look to call out the fans. Plus we talk about Sir Johnathan F. Russell and his brace after not practicing all week. Then we finish up with a preview of Wednesday’s Wild Card match against the San Jose Earthquakes.
