Across State Lines: Nashville Wins US Open Cup

Published

on

Nashville SC won their first trophy this past week, topping Austin FC 2-1 last Wednesday at Q2 Stadium. Former Sporting Kansas City forward, Teal Bunbury came on in stoppage time for Nashville in the win as he won his second US Open Cup to go along with the 2012 one he won with Sporting. He’s one of a number of people with KC ties somewhere in the Nashville system, the club has Mike Jacobs as General Manager, Chance Myers as Technical Director, Luke Sassano as head scout, Liam Doyle as Director of Soccer Operations, and Rumbani Munthali as Director of Methodology. Of those, three were players with Sporting, Myers and Sassano with the first team, Doyle with Sporting KC II.

To switch the news from a celebration to something more somber, former Sporting Designated Player, Omar Bravo has been arrested in Mexico on suspicion of child sexual abuse. The retired forward allegedly abused a teenage girl on several occasions.

There’s no good way to transition from that news, so here’s the rest of this week’s update.
