Across State Lines: Besler and Collin Up for US Soccer Hall of Fame

This past week US Soccer announced the list of eligible players for election to the US Soccer Hall of Fame class of 2025. The list of new player nominees includes three players with ties to Kansas City. The list starts with Kansas City native, former Sporting KC captain, Matt Besler who in his 13 year career was a 2 time Best XI player, an MLS Defender of the Year, one time MLS Cup champion, three time USOC champion, and appeared 47 times for the US Men’s National team. Also on the list of new nominees is Aurelien Collin, who spent 10 seasons in MLS and was a one time MLS Best XI player, won an MLS Cup, a US Open Cup, and two Supporters’ Shields during his time in the league. The final new player nominee is former FC Kansas City and KC Current forward, Amy Rodriguez. Rodriguez is the all time leading scorer in KC NWSL history and the all time leading scorer for FCKC. She won two titles with FCKC in the NWSL and appeared 132 times for the US Women’s National team.

US Soccer also announced players added to the Veterans Ballot for this year and that list includes two former Kansas City players with Bobby Convey and Eddie Johnson both being added to that list. The full list of players eligible for selection on both lists along with the Builder candidates is available on the National Soccer Hall of Fame’s site.
