Across State Lines: Former Comet Thetsane Wins USL2 Championship

Published

on

Lesia Thetsane

The USL2 season ended this past weekend in the Pacific Northwest as Ballard FC hosted Lionsbridge FC in the final. Captaining the Ballard FC side was former Kansas City Comets player, Lesia Thetsane. In a back and forth game, Thetsane and Ballard won the game in second half stoppage time with a goal off a free kick to win their first championship 2-1. You can check out the highlights, including the dramatic winner below.

Another league that finished out their season this past weekend was the NPSL. Tulsa Athletic, who Sporting KC knocked out of the US Open Cup this year won the NPSL championship in a shootout 8-7 after a 1-1 tie through 120 minutes against Apotheos FC. Former Sporting KC academy player Ciaran Winters was on Tulsa’s roster but did not dress for them in the final.

Also this past week, a former Sporting KC HomeGrown player was on the move. Erik Palmer-Brown has moved to Greece, joining one of the country’s traditional power teams, Panathinaikos FC from Troyes, who were relegated from the French Ligue 1 last year. Palmer-Brown will potentially take the field against a familiar opponent in his first game with the club as they’ll play French club Marseille in Champions League qualifying today.

Here’s the rest of this week’s update.
