Containing Guilherme & Houston’s High-Powered Wing Play: Houston relies heavily on fast transitions down the flanks, with Guilherme involved in nearly seven out of every ten Dynamo goals. Sporting’s outside backs will need to stay disciplined and limit space out wide to prevent early service into McGuire and Ponce. KC struggled on the counter last weekend against Los Angeles FC.

Snapping the Clean Sheet Streak: Sporting KC’s backline has yet to post a shutout this season. With Houston coming off a strong four game unbeaten run, defensive concentration through the full 90 minutes will be critical to keeping the Dynamo off the scoresheet. Perhaps new signing Moises Mosquera makes his first MLS start after a brief cameo against LAFC. Final Breakdown

If Sporting KC can be a little more responsible in possession or even choose to concede to a Dynamo team who don’t want the ball, they have a chance. However, Rapha Wicky seems reluctant to willfully play against the ball. That will play right into Houston’s hands.

Houston wants to counter. SKC cannot play Houston’s game if they want to win. Minnesota United had many opportunities in the last home game in Kansas City and didn’t capitalize. Houston will be more clinical, which could set up Sporting for a tough night. Without a change of heart from Wicky or an offensive explosion, Sporting KC probably fail to get this one done.
