Across State Lines: US Teams Advance at Olympic Games

The 2024 Paris Olympics are well underway this past week with both the men’s U23 team and the women’s national team underway. At the time of this posting, the men’s team has gone 2-1 in the group phase, finishing second to hosts, France. The team has qualified for the knockout round for the first time since the 2000 summer games in Sydney. With the men’s team is former Sporting KC HomeGrown Player, Gianluca Busio, who scored in the USA’s 4-1 win over New Zealand. On the women’s side, the USA is 2-0 in the group phase with their final game taking place today against Australia. The US women have already clinched advancement to the knockout round. Former KC Current forward, Lynn Williams is with the US, having scored in their 4-1 win over Germany.

There are three other former KC players participating in the tournament, all on the women’s side with Katie Bowen with New Zealand, Katrina Gorry with Australia, and Toni Payne with Nigeria.
