Across State Likes: Soccer Hall of Fame Announces Latest Eligible Players
The National Soccer Hall of Fame has announced the list of players eligible for election in 2027. The list of eligible candidates includes seven people with ties to Kansas City in their first year of eligibility. There are three categories that players can be elected into the hall of fame, the Player ballot, Veteran ballot, and Builder ballot.
On the Player ballot in his first year of eligibility is former Sporting KC player, Graham Zusi. On the Veterans ballot for the first time is former KC Comet (both the second version and the third version) and Sporting KC player, Jamar Beasley, three other former Sporting players in Brad Davis, Herculez Gomez, and Justin Mapp, and one former FC Kansas City player in Jen Buczkowski. On the Builders ballot if former KC Comets player, and former head coach of the Comets, FCKC, and KC Current, along with national team coach, Vlatko Andonovski.
The list of eligible candidates will be narrowed down by the Hall of Fame’s Screening Committee before they and other members of the Voting Committee vote on the final ballot. They will elect a maximum of six new members from the list, as many as three Players, two Veterans, and one Builder.
Also this week, former Sporting KC Homegrown Player, Wan Kuzain earned his first caps as a full international. Kuzain was called up by Malaysia for the 2026 ASEAN Championship. He earned his first cap in Malaysia’s first game coming on as a substitute against Myanmar. In the second game of the tournament he earned his second cap and scored his first goal on a free kick in a win over Laos.
