Across State Lines: Busio Scores HIs First US Goal

Published

on

Gianluca Busio

The 2023 Gold Cup has reached the knockout round and the US men’s national team will face off against Canada in the quarterfinals. The US finish atop their group after a 6-0 win over Trinidad & Tobago this past Sunday. After recording two assists in their win over St. Kitts & Nevis, former Sporting KC HomeGrown Player, Gianluca Busio scored his first goal for the USMNT in the win over Trinidad. Busio’s goal was the fifth for the US in the big win.

In other national team news, former KC Wizard, Sunil Chhetri helped lead India to the South Asia Football Federation Championship this past week. In the semifinals and finals this week against Lebanon and Kuwait, India was taken to penalty kicks in both of the games but came away both times to take their record ninth SAFF Championship. Chhetri finished as the tournament’s leading scorer with five goals, including a hattrick against Pakistan that was included on last week’s update.

And the indoor season is right around the corner for teams and a former KC Comet has a new team as Ali Sodal has signed to play the upcoming MASL season with the St. Louis Ambush.

Here’s the rest of this week’s update.
