Across State Lines: Arnaud Named Austin’s Interim Coach

Published

on

Sporting Kansas City’s 2-1 win in Austin against Austin FC last Saturday was the final straw for their head coach, Nico Estevez, who parted ways with the club on Monday along with the club’s Sporting Director, Rodoldo Borrell. With Estevez’s departure, his assistant coach, and former Sporitng KC captain and Sporting Legend, Davy Arnaud has been named the club’s interim head coach. Arnaud will get his second stint as Austin’s interim head coach having previously served in the role after Josh Wolff was removed as head coach at the end of the 2024 season. Arnaud has been with Austin since their inaugural 2021 season. Before that he’d been with the Houston Dynamo, where he’d also served as the club’s interim coach after Wilmer Cabrera’s removal. Over his prior two stints as an interim head coach, Arnaud is 4-5-1.

Elsewhere this week it sounds like things aren’t going great for the Gainsbrigde Super League, the USL’s first division women’s team which is in its second season. Reports are surfacing that one of the club’s the Spokane Zephyr will cease operations. This will put four effect four players with KC ties as former KC Current players Hope Hisey and Sophia Bruan and KC natives Kaira Houser and Felicia Knox all played for Spokane in the 2025-2026 season.

Hearing more confirmation from folks that Spokane Zephyr will fold from the USL Super League, including that players and staff have already been informed. Sad news.

In some final congratulatory news, former Sporting defender, Nicolas Hasler helped lead FC Vaduz back to the Swiss Super League as they won the Swiss second division on the final day to take the one automatic promotion spot for the 2026-2027 season.
