Former Players

Across State Lines: Finding the Net in MLS

Published

on

As if the Sporting KC season couldn’t get more frustrating for fans, this past week caused further pain with the rest of the games in MLS. Three former Sporting KC players found the net in MLS play, scoring as many goals as KC has scored all season. Teal Bunbury, Kei Kamara, and CJ Sapong all found the net for their teams this past week in their games. Bunbury and Sapong each scored their first goals of the season while Kamara scored his fourth, giving him more than KC has scored as a team so far this year.

In news of former players finding the net, Bunbury’s younger brother, Mataeo Bunbury scored a goal and had an assist for Columbus Crew 2 in their 3-2 win over Inter Miami 2. The younger Bunbury, who is on lone to Crew 2 from Birmingham Legion, had signed a professional contract last year with Birmingham after leaving the Sporting KC academy earlier in the year. At the time of his departure, Bunbury was the leading scorer for Sporting KC II in the MLS Next Pro League.

Finally this week, former KC Current midfielder, Victoria Pickett is on the move again. After being traded to Gotham FC in the 2022 season, Pickett has now been traded to the North Carolina Courage for $200,000 in allocation money. When KC had traded Pickett in 2022 the Current had gotten $200,000 in allocation money and a first round pick that KC used to select Alex Spaanstra.

Here’s the rest of this week’s update.
