After long awaited change in leadership, a breath of fresh air has given players and fans new optimism. Sporting KC have now shown they’re capable of a five-goal outburst and hanging with teams at the top of the table. Are your expectations changing for the 2025 MLS season?

This week, Shades of Blue is discussing the positive vibes around the locker room and fanbase. We can only hope those vibes are enough to carry Sporting KC into the playoffs.

Yes, it’s an episode where we are talking about being optimistic… after they just lost a game to FC Cincinnati. But this feels different than the excuses we had to make in close matches the last couple seasons.

The boys were able to keep it interesting with a late goal against a Cincinnati side who sit atop the Western Conference. Surprisingly, the defense held up quite well. They allowed an xG of just 0.86 and it took a Goal of the Year candidate to beat them. Are Voloder & Miller actually the answer at CB?

It doesn’t take much to make the MLS Cup Playoffs. They’re already in a hole, but they just need to scratch out 9th place. If Mike Burns is able to bring in a couple key pieces in the summer transfer window, it starts to look like a real possibility.

What are the two positions where YOU would make a change this summer to propel SKC into the postseason?

The biggest hole right now is the defending. Let’s see some good defensive minded people.

It’s nice to see that therapy is helping. Given the team’s current form it was blatantly obvious that Vermes needed to go and a long time ago.

I don’t believe that there needs to be any personnel changes at this moment. Our side is still learning our new manager. They have shown great improvement on the pitch and I believe more to come. I think it would be a mistake to add more variables.

That horse is dead, my guy

You can’t beat a dead horse if it isn’t already dead…

It’s only mostly dead. There’s a big difference between mostly dead and all dead.

To blave!

The first goal was the defense falling asleep. The second could have been called back for a high boot but whatever

Definitely need a better CB. If Brody can get healthy, then we don’t need a RB probably. Still TBD if he’s worth it. I would say a solid CDM would be my next spot. Radoja is not it. Jake and Bassong are fine there, but it’s not their best spot. If we could find a quality CDM, I think that takes some pressure off our backline.
