Former Players

Across State Lines: Sapong Traded to Toronto

Published

on

The primary transfer window for MLS teams closed on Monday, ending the chance to sign players currently under contract to teams around the world. A few MLS teams made some additions on Monday before the window closed, including a couple former players. Former Sporting KC player and former MLS Rookie of the Year, CJ Sapong, is on his way to Toronto. Sapong was traded to Toronto FC in exchange for allocation money and defender Lukas McNaughton. Sapong had been a regular contributor for Nashville SC, playing in seventy-four games scoring seventeen goals and adding ten assists in a little over two seasons with the club.

Another former Sporting player was also on the move, though the final move hasn’t been announced yet. Erik Hurtado had only recently signed a short term deal with USL Championship side, San Antonio FC and already looks to be on his way back to MLS. Reports out of the Washington DC area are that he has signed with DC United. Hurtado had spent last year with the Columbus Crew where he scored three goals in fourteen appearances and a little over 400 minutes.

Here’s the rest of this week’s update.
