Across State Lines: Thommy Signs with LA Galaxy

Published

on

The movement for former Sporting Kansas City players continued this past week, with a couple recent departures joining new clubs. The first is the club’s last captain, Erik Thommy, who is staying in MLS, signing with Western Conference rival, the LA Galaxy. Thommy’s signed a two year deal through the spring 2027 season with an option for the 2027-2028 MLS season.

The other recent departure is former center back, Joaquin Fernandez who has returned to Spain and joined Segunda Division side, CD Huesca. Like William Agada last week, Fernandez joins a club in the middle of a relegation battle in Spain’s second division as Huesca is just two points above the relegation zone after this past weekend’s action.

Another former player on the move is in the coaching ranks, where former Sporting midfielder, Paulo Nagamura has officially joined the Tacoma Defiance as their head coach for the 2026 MLS Next Pro season.

Here’s the rest of this week’s update.

Bleacher Creature

Good for Thommy. I wish him well.

KC_Outsider

Always liked him. Never seemed like SKC/Vermes were able to use his strengths properly. I don’t really want to see a repeat of the Ilie experience (watching a favorite player get discarded by SKC and then go win a Cup in LA) but I do wish him well.

Bleacher Creature

At the end of last season, I had the attitude of wipe the slate clean and start over. Thommy was one of the players on my list to cut. I was in my angry fan moment at that time, so I was probably wrong in how many I thought should see the door.

Knowing what we know now, maaaaaaybe we should have kept him around. Perhaps a few others.

ar_jhawk

So, Bia gets to play 2 games at CPKC this season. Teal Rising Cup announced with Palmieras being one of the teams.
