The Kansas City Current and the entirety of the NWSL released their regular season schedule today. With the additions of expansions clubs Denver Summit and Boston Legacy, the schedule now climbs to 30 games (from 26) with each team playing home and away against every other team in the league.

The season kicks off at home against the Utah Royals on March 14th. That’s one day earlier than the 2025 schedule started. The following week, the Current hit the road and face the Chicago Stars on March 22nd in their new home in Evanston after they moved away from the old Chicago Fire Bridgeview, IL stadium.

As far as when KC will meet the new expansion sides, they meet them on back-to-back games spread out over a big break. On Sunday, May 30th, KC host Boston for the first time. Then the teams go on break for the World Cup and CBA mandated summer break. On their return, Kansas City head to Denver to play the Summit and perhaps their new star, Lindsey Heaps. Denver’s first ever visit to CPKC Stadium comes in September on the 26th.

With the KC Current likely hosting an international team, a break during the Men’s World Cup makes a lot of sense because various parts of their facilities and/or stadium may be in use.

If you are looking for a good road trip double, it’s more complicated than it initially appears. Kansas City play at Seattle and at Portland just a few days apart in March. However, Seattle will be playing in Spokane during that game, making for a slightly longer trek between facilities.

The KC Current will close out the season on November 1st on the road at Racing Louisville. That’s the only game without an announced broadcast yet, likely following the “almost decision day” format from 2025.

The playoffs will start the weekend of November 6th and run through the NWSL Championship on Nov 21st.

Television Schedule

The cost of watching every NWSL game can be a steep one. That won’t change much in 2026. Eight of Kansas City’s games (nine if you count the Challenge Cup) are going to be behind the paywall of Amazon Prime. Depending on your access to paid cable, there are two games on ESPN, one on ESPN2 and another on CBS Sports Network. All the big CBS games are free over the air or available on Paramount+ behind that paywall.

An additional 13 games on various free platforms like ION (10), NWSL+ (2) or Victory+ (1) won’t add to your expenses at least.

Challenge Cup Moved

In addition to the regular season schedule coming out, an updated was made to the NWSL Challenge Cup that is played between the defending NWSL Champion and the NWSL Shield champion. The KC Current’s first chance at revenge against NJ/NY Gotham, who eliminated them from the playoffs, will have to wait. Instead of February 21st, when it was originally scheduled the teams won’t play their Challenge Cup game until Friday, June 26th at 7:00PM CT. The game is at a neutral site, in Columbus, Ohio. It’s available to watch on Prime.

The KC Current won’t have to wait until the Challenge Cup for revenge though, as their first regular season meeting is on April 4th at home against Gotham before the return match is played on August 14th in New Jersey.

Teal Rising Cup Returns

The second annual Teal Rising Cup has moved to April with two match days. Thursday, April 9th will be the first game with the finals being played on Sunday, April 12th. Dates, times, broadcast and opponent information still to come.

Looks like, at first glance, they only play at home on the same day as SKC 2 and the games are only an hour apart – boo! There is an October date where one plays Saturday and one plays Sunday – might have to shoot for that.
