Erik Bergrud from the Kansas City Comets broadcast team and Thad Bell from the Kansas City Soccer Journal recorded the latest episode of The Blue Turf for the 2023-24 season and we are again online and not at the now “World Famous” Kansas City Soccer Dome.

The Comets are struggling at the moment after an overtime loss at home against Utica City FC (7-6). Then a pair of defeats in Monterrey. The Comets were seriously outplayed in the first half on Sunday but played better in the second but came up well short with a final 12-5 result. On Tuesday, the Comets started much better. The Flash scored first, midway through the first half but the Comets responded well. A pair of goals by Leo Acosta, and goals from Ray Lee, Zach Reget and Rian Marquess staked Kansas City to a 5-2 lead over the Flash into halftime. The home side came out strong and dominated the second half as the Comets could not stay focused. Monterrey took their second victory in two days with an 8-7 win.

We discuss what went wrong and right, players, and a keeper change with Phillip Ejimadu taking over for the second match.

Next up is another tough match left on the Mexico trip as Kansas City heads to Chihuahua on Friday night.
