The Comets started strong but are struggling lately

Erik Bergrud from the Kansas City Comets broadcast team and Thad Bell from the Kansas City Soccer Journal recorded the latest episode of The Blue Turf for the 2023-24 season and we are again not at the now “World Famous” Kansas City Soccer Dome.

The Kansas City Comets were so good at the start of the season, topping the standings and starting with seven wins to just one loss. Since then they have struggled going winless in the last four, one at home and then three on the road trip to Mexico. After a home loss to Utica City FC, a pair of defeats in Monterrey, and a loss at the Chihuahua Savage the Comets returned home to rest up and get ready for the next road game at Utica.

Erik and Thad tried to focus on evaluating the team at the halfway point of the season without looking too much into the future.  Erik stayed focused while Thad distracted him.

The Comets started so strong but what went wrong? Missing some players with various knocks and facing tougher competition are factors. Young players have stepped up but have all of the veterans performed to expectations? Leo Acosta, Mikey Lenis, and Phillip Ejimadu have all shined for the Comets.

Can the Comets get back on track and climb back up the standings?
