Sporting KC and Partial KC Current Preseason Schedules Released

On Wednesday, we inched that much closer to watching Sporting Kansas City and the Kansas City Current play soccer again. Not real games that matter, but it’s something.

The Coachella Valley Invitational, which we knew Sporting KC were playing in but didn’t know if the KC Current were playing, released their preseason schedule for February. Sporting will play three games in Indio, California, while the Current will just drop in for a single game in final preparations for the NWSL Challenge Cup.

In fact, the two teams play on back-t0-back days February 14th through the 15th. Plan your Valentine’s Day accordingly!

Sporting KC CVI Schedule

Major League Soccer will take center stage when they kickoff the Coachella Valley Invitational on Saturday, February 7th. 12 MLS teams are making the journey with SKC’s rival, St. Louis City SC, featured in the opening game. Sporting’s first game will be a part of the “friendliest rivalry” in sports, when they face Minnesota United FC.

That is followed up by a midweek matchup against new President of Soccer Operations David Lee’s former club, New York City FC. The final preseason game is against Austin FC, before Sporting KC prepare to kickoff the MLS season the following weekend.

This is the second leg of the SKC preseason.

Update: January’s Preseason Dates Released

After the original publishing of this article, Sporting KC provided us with the first three dates in Florida.

That brings the total to six preseason games. Florida International University, the alma mater of Sporting KC winger Stephen Afrifa, have become a regular opponent to Kansas City. They started off the 2025 preseason with a stunning loss to FIU. Certainly, KC will look for a better start to 2026. KC also get games against Charlotte (who they played last year) and the Chicago Fire (who they may be soon aligned in a division with).

After CVI, the offseason schedule ends and Sporting KC open their 2026 MLS season on the road on February 21st against the San Jose Earthquakes.

KC Current CVI Schedule

The Kansas City Current are joined by eight other NWSL teams during their brief trip to CA. They play just a single game against the World Sevens Football winners, the San Diego Wave. If you are planning a trip and want to see both Kansas City teams play, this is the weekend to go.

The Current then have a tight turnaround to face the NWSL Championship winners, Gotham FC, in the 2026 NWSL Challenge Cup that Friday on Amazon Prime.
