Sporting KC
What We Want to Happen Today 10/4

Midweek MLS action tonight with twelve games taking place around the league. Sporting Kansas City is off, but there will certainly be some scoreboard watching. KC can’t be eliminated from playoff contention tonight, but their slim hopes will get even slimmer if results don’t go KC’s way. Here’s a look at tonight’s games and what KC will want to happen.
Charlotte vs Toronto
What We Want to Happen: Toronto win
This game barely matters as Toronto FC has already been eliminated from the playoffs, and Charlotte FC sits only one spot above Toronto in the standings and seems unlikely to make the playoffs. That said, Charlotte can still catch KC on points, Toronto can’t, so Toronto it is.
Cincinnati vs New York
What We Want to Happen: Cincinnati win
FC Cincinnati has clinched the Supporters’ Shield and the New York Red Bulls can still catch and pass KC, so cheer for the Supporters’ Shield winners.
Montreal vs Houston
What We Want to Happen: Montreal win
It’s a slim chance, but Sporting needs to win out and Houston Dynamo needs to lose out for Sporting to equal Houston’s point total, so go with the team in the East.
New England vs Columbus
What We Want to Happen: Does not matter
Sporting can catch neither team, so it doesn’t matter.
Philadelphia vs Atlanta
What We Want to Happen: Does not matter.
As above, Sporting can not catch either team.
Austin vs DC
What We Want to Happen: DC win
East vs West, cheer for the East. Austin FC sits three points behind KC with a game in hand, so cheer for DC United to win.
Chicago vs Miami
What We Want to Happen: Draw
The Chicago Fire sit on 37 points, with one game in hand on KC. Inter Miami meanwhile sits five points back, but has two games in hand so both dropping points here is probably preferable.
Dallas at Colorado
What We Want to Happen: Colorado win
The Colorado Rapids can’t catch Sporting KC, while FC Dallas sit three points ahead of KC so it’s straight forward.
Nashville vs Orlando
What We Want to Happen: Does not matter
Sporting can’t catch either team.
LAFC vs Minnesota
What We Want to Happen: LAFC win
The simple choice of a team that Sporting can’t catch (Los Angeles FC) vs a team Sporting is level with on points with (Minnesota United), go with the team that Sporting can’t catch.
Seattle vs LA
What We Want to Happen: Seattle win
Like the LAFC vs Minnesota game, only replace “team Sporting is level with on points” with “team trailing Sporting by three points.”
Vancouver vs St. Louis
What We Want to Happen: St. Louis win
Sporting can still pass the Vancouver Whitecaps if they win out and Vancouver loses out, so dropped points for Vancouver is desired here.
