On the Road Again: Kansas City Current @ Houston Dash

Can Kansas City earn their third road win?

The Current need a win on the road ASAP, and the game in Houston is their best chance to get three points away from CPKC Stadium, where they are unbeaten this season. But there’s just something about a Current team on the road that leaves us all a little…uninspired (you know). Two wins out of seven away from home should be something that maybe, just maybe, inspires the front office to sign somebody…anybody…who could help that defense midfield and replace your stellar d-mid who chose to play somewhere else. But seems like wishful thinking at this point, a signing.

Houston can be a little tough at home, coming into this game with a 4-3-2 record at Shell Energy Stadium, and Jane Campbell is one of the most experienced goalkeepers in the league, ranked third in saves per match (4.3) (FotMob.com). Campbell and the Dash held Gotham FC to a 1- 0 loss in their last game last week, so expect a challenge for the away team, who has struggled to score goals on the road. The Current come into this match having been shut out in their last two away games, while giving up four goals, three to Orlando and one to Boston.

The Current’s attack without Temwa Chawinga for another game will again be the focus of the storyline. Chawinga and Malawi have moved on to the quarterfinals of WAFCON, moving them one step closer to qualifying for the 2027 Women’s World Cup for the first time. There was a bit of hope for the Current this week for the potential return of Michelle Cooper and Lorena who may return soon. According to our very own managing editor, Thad Bell, both rejoined training yesterday, but only Lorena was removed from the injury report for this game.
