Sporting KC Sign 15-Year-Old CB Luca Antongirolami
Luca will start on SKC II before officially joining the first team next summer ahead of the calendar flip in MLS.
Sporting Kansas City keep making moves. This time, it’s a move for the future. This morning, the team announced the signing of 15-year-old center back, Luca Antongirolami as a Homegrown signing.
It’s a similar contract to the deal signed by fellow Homegrown, Zamir Loyo Reynaga, who signed ahead of the season. Luca will spend the next year on SKC II before moving to a senior team contract in the summer of 2027.
His MLS deal begins after the MLS schedule change next summer, making his first MLS season the 2027-28 season. He’s signed to a three-year guaranteed deal with club options for two more seasons through 2031-32.
Antongirolami is a local kid from Kansas City who has been in the SKC Academy since he was 10 years old.
“We are delighted that Luca and his family have made the decision to continue his development and begin his professional career with Sporting KC,” President of Soccer Operations & General Manager David Lee said. “Luca impressed during preseason and has already played with SKC II this season while being a regular member of the U.S. Youth National Teams, showing a high level of quality for a player his age. He is a left-footed central defender who shows excellent tactical and technical understanding, and he is a player we believe has extremely high potential.”
“Any opportunity to sign a player from our Academy is a special moment, even more so for players that are born and raised in Kansas City,” Lee continued. “Ensuring that the most talented players from the KC area have the pathway to play for their local club is a critical part of our pro player pathway, and we owe huge credit to the hard work of the Academy and SKC II staff who continue to develop players that are capable of playing with the first team at Sporting Park.”
As Lee mentioned, Luca made his pro debut with Sporting KC II this season and already has eight appearances, alongside appearances with the SKC U-18s in MLS Next. He’s also consistently been called up by the United States Youth National teams. He’s represented his nation at the U-14, U-15 and U-16 levels so far. He’s a dual citizen of the United States and Italy and is already 6’0 tall at just 15 years old. Luca also spent the 2026 preseason with the first team.
At 15 years and 151 days, Luca becomes the second youngest player ever to debut with SKC II, behind the aforementioned Loyo Reynaga. He slots in just ahead of new teammate, Ian James. Fourth on the list? Gianluca Busio.
