Love the cover pic for this in light of the lineups for tonight…glad to see Kinda on the bench at least. Good luck to you all, I will be ignoring reality around a campfire tonight.

Jacie20

Im also doing something else with my Saturday night! Apathy has set in.

Shawn Gillogly

I’m not sure Hernandez was better or worse than anyone else. But Espinoza hasn’t been able to run 30mins in the last month. So forgive me for not thinking he’s a starter.

SportsChum

New England’s due for a loss.

Shawn Gillogly

Ugh. Duke’s been exploited twice already.

Shawn Gillogly

Make that 3.

Shawn Gillogly

Yeah. I’m just going to go out on a limb and say whatever Cam Duke’s final MLS position will be…right back is not it.

David Greenwald

I want cam Duke to be traded. Not because i don’t like him, but he deserves a chance to be properly developed instead of whatever shit PV is doing to him.

Shawn Gillogly

Also, someone needs to track Gil. Or this is going to be a short watch

Shawn Gillogly

Roger with a late, pointless challenge from behind. That would usually get him a yellow.

J.Wm.

Surprised it wasn’t solely on reputation.

Shawn Gillogly

Exactly. And he’s gotten away with another even.

InToTouch

I think he didn’t give it because of the one he gave to Fontas was not a yellow

Shawn Gillogly

Pulido needs to do better in transition. Played that pass right between Salloi’s feet. As if he couldn’t decide to either play it to him or Thommy.

MisterMurse

He also stopped a run way too soon that Duke perfectly weighted a pass to. He would have been in on goal

FullmetallJanitor

The only thing this team does with the ball is pass it backward or give it to Pulido so he can lose it in the New England half. Another long night.

Shawn Gillogly

Don’t forget the no-hope 35yard+ shots. Like Walter did.

MisterMurse

You have to shoot from distance if they give you the space.

J.Wm.

They’ll concede those shots all night.

Shawn Gillogly

No. You really don’t.

MisterMurse

You should. That shot wasn’t great but Walter has the ability to threaten goal with shots outside the box. If you never take those then defense will never step to it quickly and open up space. Part of what thommy changed last season was a threat from outside the box.

KCoutsider

And if you’re never dangerous inside the box, opposing teams will take their chances on occasional Wundergoals in exchance for being able to dominate otherwise.

Shawn Gillogly

What is Roger Espinoza doing as the player in the center forward channel on a transition?!

Offside run from him left Russell no one to pass to.

Shawn Gillogly

Well…that was too easy. Cheap turnover on the throw-in. One pass, and a simple 2v1.

J.Wm.

And so it goes…

Howlie2

Sigh…here we go again

KCSpurs1996

Russell and Salloi are both dropping too deep in defense, meanwhile Thommy, Walter, and Espinoza are all over the place. Thommy and Espinoza need to help the FBs defend the wing and let Walter patrol centrally. Russell/Salloi should be playing closer to the halfway line so we’re poised for the counter attack. I mean this is simple stuff, I don’t know why our coaches aren’t seeing it.

Shawn Gillogly

Can we just decline throw-ins? I haven’t seen this many turnovers on own throws since FM 18.

J.Wm.

KCoutsider

That’s it, I’m switching over to MLS360. I gave SKC a chance to be worth watching.

KCoutsider

I normally like MLS360 but it’s pretty disorienting when the whole league is wearing the same uniforms.

Shawn Gillogly

Yeah, and nothing says “concern for the environment,” than special jerseys to be sold for corporate bucks.

KCoutsider

“Consume more to save the planet!” Maybe I’d be impressed if they actually started making everyday jerseys from recycled plastic. These are just wasteful gimmicks, as cool as the concept is.

dal90

i agree, but it’s funny how anger at team performance is turning into general anger at stuff

Shawn Gillogly

Oh, I’m not a fan of these “consume for causes” jerseys in general.

KCoutsider

I was angry before I was disgusted. I’m an anger hipster.

Shawn Gillogly

I’m saying it.

This team looks like it’s quit on Vermes.

Josh Wallace

I agree. In watching the first half, I just saw a team with many flaws and very little belief.

David Greenwald

Vermes out.

Michael Herbert

It’s like Chris(?) Wittingly(?) said during the podcast.

SKC has been on the verge for 2.5 seasons now, but a constant string of injuries, and other bad luck situations have left us gnawing at the wooden spoon.

At what point do we address the elephant in the room and say the constant string of injuries and other mis-givings isn’t just bad luck, but a combination of things:

  • Players unwilling to play hard for Vermes (bad reputation) – see also Jose Mauri, Ben Sweat –
  • A bad training staff that can’t keep players healthy, and won’t due diligence to check for minor things before they come major
  1. Alan Pulido’s knee
  2. Gadi Kinda’s knee
  3. The ENTIRE ROSTER’s hamstring
  4. Willy Agada’s stress fractured leg.
  • PV and Staff unwilling to move aging Veterans into super-sub roles
  1. Roger Espinoza should be subbing at 80 minutes for Felipe Hernandez, and taking a larger coaching role.
  2. Graham Zusi should be subbing for (Kayden Pierre when healthy) at 80 minutes and taking a larger coaching role.
  • PV and Staff unwilling to be more flexible in their coaching, in order to play their best 11 at any given moment:
  1. Recent Example: Even with a fully healthy Alan Pulido and Willy Agada, we don’t have an offense that can pitch 20-30 crosses into the box per game to challenge for headers, volleys, etc… that really only can work on set plays (see Rosero winning headers, Johnny Russell finishing on the backside).
  2. Obligatory not a Professional Coach, Professional Arm Chair Manager: Our best (13) Two weeks ago: Melia/Pulskamp.
  3. CB: Roseros, Voloder (more athletic, younger).
  4. FB – Ndenbe, Zusi.
  5. Midfielders – Walter, Hernandez, Thommy
  6. Forwards – Agada, Pulido, Salloi, Russell
  7. Our best lineup based on that 4-5-1:
  8. Zusi, Rosero, Voloder, Ndenbe on the back line
  9. Walter, Thommy, playing Defensive Mid Pivots
  10. Salloi, Pulido, Russell playing attacking mids
  11. Willy Agada playing a traditional 9.
  12. With this set up, play to the strengths of the team – Quick passing and Slashing attacks from Russell, Salloi. They should take shots from 18-25 yards at the elbows. These slashing attacks create space for Thommy and Pulido to take shots from the top of the box, 18-25 yard range. Agada camps inside the 18 to play cleanup, as he (had) an amazing ability to get on rebounds and score goals last season.
  13. Things We should not do (as our go to play): Play the ball into the corner and look for a cross. Willy Agada will rarely win a header against an Elite CB. Salloi can’t seem to find the end of a cross to save his life. Only Russell has proven the ability to get on the end of a cross with any recency.
David Greenwald

Vermes Out.

Shawn Gillogly

The team looks like it’s joined the movement.

SportsChum

He’s gotta go.

J.Wm.

Going to make a pan of baklava. I know those ingredients work well together.

#WeDeserveBetter

KCoutsider

My evening peaked with fresh-ground venison burgers on homemade sourdough rolls with garden greens and homemade mustard. Should’ve made another burger instead of hitting the couch.

InToTouch

I can’t believe my eyes. Goal from a set piece… not in 1,000,000 years would anyone expect it

SportsChum

Oh my gosh… we actually score a point. Wow!

Shawn Gillogly

So Espinoza is playing wing, Russell inside him. And Pulido is almost a deep-lying playmaker.

And for the 2nd week in a row, SKC loses a centerback. Disaster class all game from Fontas.

KCSpurs1996

I know right?! I said something similar in an earlier comment. I don’t understand our positioning. Midfielders are all over the place, wingers are dropping too deep and tucking in centrally, Pulido is never where you want him to be.

Shawn Gillogly

I think the reason it was that way was to protect Roger’s legs.

KCSpurs1996

It’s wild that we haven’t just replaced him with someone that is physically capable to play in the role. Coaches would rather warp the formation instead to mask his limitations.

David Greenwald

Should have never re-signed him. We knew both he and Isi were shit last year. I’d be more willing to suffer through a rebuilding year if we were actually rebuilding. But after a truly horrid season, Vermes said “let’s run it the fuck back!” and brought back a bunch of dudes who can’t hang anymore. Zusi is a relic from MLS 2.0. Roger too. Their best years are so far behind them. Fontas has had 1 season worth the $1m per year. But he and Pulido are racing to be the biggest swing and miss of the Vermes era.

InToTouch

Fontas, lol. Vrioni just worked him over.

Josh Wallace

SMH

KCSpurs1996

In all my years as a soccer fan (~15) I have never seen this many red cards for one team in such a short span of games. I’m speechless

David

Fontas gonna fontas

David

I jogged home from work due to my car being in the shop. On the way I thought, “I better start doing this more often. Sporting may need me.” Walked in the door just to see the red and fontas acting like he didn’t know he deserved a red……I may actually be needed

Shawn Gillogly

Well, reviewing it for Red when it was a 2nd yellow anyway was insult to injury.

David

Oh yeah it’s Khiry! Said no one

Shawn Gillogly

So Shelton in for Pulido. sigh

J.Wm.

I guess the review was for DOGSO? I didn’t think yellow was reviewable.

MisterMurse

All potential reds are reviewable. Missed yellows are not.

J.Wm.

Even if the red is the result of a second yellow? I had no doubt the foul deserved a booking.

#WeDeserveBetter

MisterMurse

A hard red carries different penalties than yellow accumulation, so yea.

Absolutely. It was dogso. Even without his first yellow that is a arguable red card.

J.Wm.

Thanks for the clarification. No problem with either call; as Shawn said, reviewing a second yellow for a straight red was just adding insult to injury.

#WeDeserveBetter

MisterMurse

HOW IS SHELTON AN ANSWER FOR ANYTHING THIS SEASON? ANYTHING? PLAY THIS KIDS AT THIS POINT.

InToTouch

Why would you take your best player off when you’re down a man and a goal?! Madness

KCSpurs1996

If Pulido isn’t fit to go the full 90, then why are we starting him? I’d rather see him come on in the middle of the 2nd half as an impact sub until he’s back to full fitness

KCoutsider

Maybe they’re taking him off before he quits in disgust mid-game and joins NER.

KCoutsider

What was downvotable about that? I thought we were doing bitter sarcasm tonight?

Steve Nelson

#IVERMECTIN We need a horse dewormer!

SportsChum

Good to be on the other end of one of Sweat’s infamous turnovers

Shawn Gillogly

Rosero…what. was. That?

Shawn Gillogly

Melia is the only reason this isn’t a shellacking.

David

I was listening to the ESPN deportes version of around the horn, and they were talking about Simeone who coaches Atlético Madrid and how he was going to possibly be out soon. Reason I bring it up is here’s the comment they made when they were talking about what he should do if he gets fired:

“I think he’s been in the league for awhile and while he experienced a lot of success in the past, it hasn’t been recently. His best move if he got fired, would be to take some time out of the league to learn the current state of the game and adjust his management style”

Man…….who does that sound like

Shawn Gillogly

The bad part for Simeone is he wanted to leave a few years back. But he was talked into staying because it would be bad for the club to lose the guy who earned them their shiny new stadium.

David

Unfortunately that’s how it goes, instead of going out on top they usually stay too long and get run out of town. Unless your Peter, he’s the exception and gets an extension 😒

David

You mean players under 30 are hungry and can actually play when given the chance……..mind blown 😒

Shawn Gillogly

Give me Tzionnis over Shelton every time.

Shawn Gillogly

Tell.me Tzionnis can’t create chances

SportsChum

Must say, the energy from Duke, Hernandez and Tzionnis is refreshing.

Shawn Gillogly

They showed more fight than any of the regulars other than Melia.

Shawn Gillogly

So Shelton is in the game because he can run and press. But he just threw.his hands up and stopped pressing. And he hasn’t played 30 mins.

David

Players who shouldn’t see the field again:

Khiry, fontas

Players who need to sit and not play for awhile:

Thommy, salloi

Send a message, make the vets play the open cup and let the kids play next weekend. Leave Peter and staff at the airport.

Shawn Gillogly

Thommy did nothing wrong this game. He was not the player attacks broke down around (Pulido). He did not make mistakes leading to goals (Espinoza, Duke). He didn’t take 35yard no hope shots.

Salloi was poor. Khiry and Fontas were awful. I agree on those.

MisterMurse

Yup. Thommy looks poor because he has zero options up front. Salloi has zero threatening movement off the ball. Russell hasn’t been able to successfully dribble anyone for a while, and pulido has either completely lost it or had terrible training to be “sporting fit”.

Tzionis and hernandez gave more offensive movement than salloi did all game. Russell had better creative movement when he dropped to the middle. Even Duke provided more creative movement (mainly early on – but hey, he is a winger/midfielder, not a defender).

HeeeresTzionis

Agreed. I thought Thommy actually looked better.

Josh Wallace

I really want to see more of Tzionis this upcoming week. He came out tonight trying to make something happen.

David

Dude tries hard everytime he comes on and he still only gets a cameo with a random start. I feel for the young guys because they all hit the field with a fire to prove their worth and the best they get is a cameo run out while the old guys get to be straight up garbage with no chance of being benched. It’s beyond old at this point

David Greenwald

Tzionis deserves better. At this point I hope we transfer him in the summer window because the dude is good enough to play somewhere instead of rotting on the bench while Vermes lets a bunch of guys who can’t get the job done get some run.

And it really fucking sucks to watch him sub in for 10 minutes in a different position than the one he was signed to play. Vermes sucks. Vermes out.

KCoutsider

The problem with watching MLS360 is it reminds how much fun soccer is out there across the league, which I didn’t see when I was 100% an SKC homer.

SportsChum

!00% agree. It is a very exciting league out there.

David

Instead of watching another stammering session of a press conference, I flipped over to the Cruz Azul vs Chivas game just in time for cruz azul to score. At least this evening hasn’t been complete bullshit
