Contributor- I am a lifelong Kansas Citian (albeit on the outskirts) and have always been a KC sports fanatic, but my love of soccer started much later in life. I attended my first Sporting KC match in 2015 after watching a few matches on TV. I became a season ticket member in 2016 and haven't looked back! I work full-time as an elementary school teacher in the Northland.

Same lineup same result??????

Drew

Salloi in the doghouse or just not starting XI quality now? You’d think going 0-0-3 you try something different.

kcrews123

Good to see Vermes is looking to change up the plan from the last 5 losses.

Oh wait…

Jeremy

I’m not even mad. Dotson’s strike was flawless.

WonderfulWizHeWas

Cue: People blaming Pulskamp for that goal.

Reality: SKC does a horrible job of clearing balls from their box. It is almost comical.

Mister Murse

Mmufc’s defense is so organized we will not get through with how slow we build our attack. We also can’t dribble any of them

WonderfulWizHeWas

And when SKC does get in the final third, their spacing is horrible. They have guys tripping over each other in the same space. Easy to defend that.

Mister Murse

And our defense hangs so far back, we can’t apply immediately pressure.

Just before half, radoja should have run past jovalic and into the box. He chose to hold and take a shot outside the box. No drive. No recognition of space or how to create it

WonderfulWizHeWas

Vermes knew exactly which job he should take when confronted with the choice of manager or sporting director. He knew he continue this graft another year or two by shirking responsibility for the on-field performance by saying “But I don’t make the roster decisions. It’s not my fault we can’t win with this roster.”

This needs to end. Now. Vermes has to go, if for no other reason than to get a fresh start and clear away the supporters’ bad will toward the club that has given them the middle finger.

In the final third, SKC is so predictable. You have two wingers who will only cut inside and the full-backs are stuck having to play it back because the midfield can’t get on and/or keep the ball.

skcfanipromise

Surely we just need to give Vermes more time.

if they come back and win, it’s because they start ignoring Vermes

WonderfulWizHeWas

An attempt on goal…..such as it were. It only took 45 minutes.

WonderfulWizHeWas

If relegation was a thing, I’m not sure SKC would even be in the top 5 of the second division over a full season.

skcfanipromise

look forward to hearing the vermes apologists on the weekly podcast(s) roadtrip listen

ps love the podcast hosts and everything they do; I look forward to the episodes more than the games

Mister Murse

We are so bad. Minnesota didn’t just roll out this tactic. They have been doing it for a minute and it plays very counter to vermes ball. Especially vermes ball with sub par players and implementation. Their attacks almost outnumber us every time.

GV dude

Yeah. Good game, very entertaining PV. 70 percent possession down 3 to 0. Keep playing the best mid at right back. I’ve got Jake down for giving up 2 goals tonight. Leaving the only attacker unmarked on the 2nd. Playing the guy on for the third.

A shot on goal is a goal with pulskamp in net. That’s all. Keep on sucking till you do succeed.

They are really giving PV two more windows? Why? It won’t matter. Just about to lose some fans.

WonderfulWizHeWas

I said it before: If Davis is the best right back SKC has, it’s going to be a long season. (I didn’t comment after the second goal because I didn’t feel like being attacked as a Davis hater. I don’t hate him. He just isn’t going to make the difference between playoffs and not.)

He is an OK midfielder. He plays with energy and cares. I could play with energy and care. That doesn’t make me a good MLS player.

GV dude

True, he is the best option at rb. I’m just beginning to think the team is so bad he’s looked better than he is. I would love him at rm in a 442.

WonderfulWizHeWas

Would it be bad for a Sporting fan to wish for 5-0 and chants of “Vermes out!!”? (Asking for a friend.)

Mister Murse

No. If it spurs change then it needs to happen.

WonderfulWizHeWas

The Cauldron needs to stop chanting and start yelling “Vermes out!”

WonderfulWizHeWas

Anyone see this article in a MN paper? The rest of the soccer world wonders why Vermes still has a job, while SKC ownership and maybe 1/3 of the fans still support him.

skcfanipromise

Let’s go! A goal!!!

WonderfulWizHeWas

Salloi with the only way he can score: a free ball over the top where he doesn’t have to face a challenge and beats the keeper. A one-trick pony whose every goal in 2021 was basically that, sprinkled with a few lucky balls that fell at his feet from the back side that he could poke in.l against nobody.

David in the chat

Christ. He scored and still can’t get a single nice thing said about him.

how did Thommy and Shapi do? Where were all of Thommy’s goals?

WonderfulWizHeWas

Why don’t you comment on the content of my post, rather than angrily down-vote every comment out of spite? Show me any goals Salloi scored in 2021 that were not in one of the two ways I mentioned and I will take it back. Somehow, people think he is an above-average-ish winger based on that charmed year and the fact that “he’s been our second best goal scorer the last couple of years” when we haven’t had any decent attacking options. The second best scorer on bad attacking teams doesn’t make a guy a difference-maker in MLS. I expect players that can move this team from bad to the playoffs, not “he’s pretty good, for SKC standards.”

David in the Chat

Just curious what flavor of hatorade you’re drinking tonight.

It’s wild to see someone hate on a player in the middle of them having a good sub appearance.

You literally complained about him doing something positive in the game because he’s not more complete. “Yea, he scored and all but he’s not better so I’ll just shit on him.” It’s WILD.

You’re angry at the club and the players. Fine. But don’t pretend like you’re not a hater and do not pretend like you’re being objective at all.

WonderfulWizHeWas

Yes, I am upset with management for not recruiting over Salloi so we don’t have to settle for “He’s the best we’ve got.” You don’t win championships with the passive recruitment efforts of this ownership group. Yes, they brought in a few players late this preseason. But they had to know a left winger was a priority. And they act like they are caught behind the eight ball by surprise at the last minute, bringing in players too late to get off to a decent start of the season.

Salloi would make a great bench player. But no opponent is quaking in their boots worrying about how they are going to contain SKC’s wingers

David in the Chat

Ok. But of the things to complain about from last night, Daniel is at the … bottom of the list. He came off the bench. He lost his starting spot. Dude has started 1 game in the league. He played a whopping 32 minutes last night. During which the team came back from a 3-0 deficit.

It just seems like you’re hating to hate. It’s lame.

jdkus11

I hear your frustration with Salloi and agree that he’s not as good as we thought he was going to be, but this is just wrong. There were so many goals he scored in 2021 where he cut on his right foot at the top of the box and curled it in the far side. Repeatedly. Now, I think he was on a heater that year and is super streaky, but you keep asking for him to do something and he did.

WonderfulWizHeWas

I went back and watched all of Salloi’s goals in 2021. He scored at least 14 goals from outside the area. At least 80% of his goals were either one or two touch goals where the ball happened to find him, whether by skill or luck. That season is not repeatable. It was charmed. That’s why he has scored fewer goals in the last few years than in his one season of glory.

David in the Chat

Other than the miserable 2019, Salloi has performed at or above his xG each season with Sporting.

Again, you’re choosing to hate on a bench player and you direct no vitriol towards Voloder or Thommy or Radoja. It’s weird.

Michael

My main problem with Salloi is that he is “soft”. He hardly ever challenges for a ball in the air and doesn’t try to physically hold off defenders. Salloi was faster than MNs RB (I believe they subbed and this was actually their backup RB or starting midfielder that moved back to RB after the sub) so he was able to get onto the balls over the top.

WonderfulWizHeWas

Exactly.

SportsChum

Was just gonna comment on how lifeless this team was then they scored two goals.

WonderfulWizHeWas

Blind sow, and such……..

SKC has 70% of the ball and has mustered 6 total shots vs 12 for Minnesota.

Hypothesis: down goals, SKC starts to ignore Vermes, and SKC starts to score goals

GV dude

My comments didn’t age well and I’m okay with that.

WonderfulWizHeWas

It’s okay. You were just going off the recent history of this team. We didn’t have any reason to hope for a comeback the way they were playing. Whether they win, loss, or draw tonight, it still doesn’t change the fact that Vermes needs to go.

Stu

Yeah this comment section has been an emotional ride and I’m completely fine with that

WonderfulWizHeWas

Imagine if Joveljic had really good wingers and another quality 8 to play with. That was a really nice move.

skcfanipromise

Hypothesis: down goals, SKC starts to ignore Vermes, and SKC starts to score goals

lets win it.

Wet Water

Hypothesis: They really struggled with Tani Oluwaseyi’s speed and their line wasn’t organized enough for any kind of offside trap to work on him. Minnesota really let them off the hook when they took him out (but why would they leave him in up 3 goals in the snow when he looks like he is set to have a huge breakout year?) and that let SKC get numbers forward without being punished on the counter.

WonderfulWizHeWas

When a draw in the sixth game of the season is considered progress and a reason for hope…….it’s just not your year.
