Wait, it looks like this one ISN’T streaming on Concacaf’s Spanish YouTube? They’ve got LA/Colorado but not SKC/Miami. That’s crap.

messi hilariously wide open on that goal…wtf

Stan J.

In defense of our defense, how could anyone anticipate a golazo from Messi!? [sigh]

dal9

understandable he might have gotten left off the scouting report

So close

Ended up watching on YouTube from a UK VPN. Sure feels like a vintage SKC performance: do a variety of things right but unable to finish or generate any luck, and give up killer goals the other way,

Please no one be surprised anymore. This completes the destruction of the club for me. PV inherited a championship roster and has run the club into the ground. Wins mls cup first season, never returns, never loses his job. 50 percent win rate in mls and somehow is top 5 in most tenured coaches in the world.

Adds players a week before competitive games begin, just like every year. Consistently has no idea what formation or who to put in it. Rewind to covid. Kerry stepped in when Vermes had covid and a hapless team started having cohesion in two games. Fire Pete, promote Kerry.

You can give Vermes real madrid roster and drop it in mls. You win open cup and you still get rolled in the playoffs.

OK so just to play devil’s advocate here…getting rolled by the Barcelona All-Stars with a highly revamped lineup that’s barely played together isn’t that surprising. In past years, with mostly the same lineup, I’d be more pissed. Right now I’m still open to letting things play out a bit more. Remember, we weren’t even supposed to BE here today, if it wasn’t for silly qualification rules.

GV dude

It’s a pro team, they did qualify. It’s funny how. PV always goes for open cup because all the other teams roll out back ups. Going for it and barely getting by usl teams punched our ticket to this dance. I’d say PV earned this humiliation in that breath.

The 40 year olds from Barcelona that played down a man on Saturday. There, fixed it for you. They have more miles on their old legs. Talent wise, yes they’re better. That’s why I watch team sports though. One man can’t do it alone, one man can’t lose it alone.

Your history is… Just so wrong. Peter Vermes was technical director before he was coach. He got the players that two different coaches asked him to and they both failed. So Peter asked ownership if he could have the job. He took over in 2010 and with the roster Onalfo wanted and systematically dismantled it and built the roster that won USOC and MLS Cup in 12 and 13, which were his 3rd and 4th year as coach, with a roster that he hand picked.

I don’t know where you got that he inherited a championship roster and won the cup in his first year. That’s just nonsense.

They’ve not been contenders for a grand total of 3 seasons during his tenure. They are usually top 3 in their conference. But I understand reality as well. The league had changed a lot in the last 5 years and we’ve been good for 2 whole seasons of that and good for 2/3 of a third but TERRIBLE for the rest of it so he is obviously struggling.

As for this rebuild: he’s not doing it. Mike Burns is leading the scouts, he’s recruiting, he’s negotiating, and he’s got the final day. Peter Vermes is literally just coaching. So players coming in last minute this season and the roster build being slow is on Mike Burns.

Peter has tons of issues. You don’t need to make up fake history or mischaracterize what he’s doing now to make it sound worse.

GV dude

I didn’t make anything up, I was simply mistaken on the timeline. I’ve never seen a coach in any sport keep their job for 12 years with no success after showing they can win the cup. No, this isn’t Europe. I understand that. Tuechel got sacked after winning uefa champions league for Chelsea. They haven’t been back since.

We’re on the opposite spectrum. We’re the Cleveland browns of mls. Why? I’ll be sure and only blame coaching on him. So far, he’s been outcoached by the former Dallas coach in Austin. Masterclass destroyed by a first year coach in Macherano.

Burns has no chance of success. I don’t care who he brings in.

David in the chat

Ok, so feel your feelings. If you hate PV, that’s fine. Just be accurate when you give your reasons.

second, suggesting that losing 4-1 on aggregate to the reigning Shield winners when we are admittedly at the beginning of a roster rebuild is the destruction of the club is a… choice.

Michael

I am not able to watch the game tonight. Can someone fill me in on how Miami scored their 2nd and 3rd goals? How is Shapi doing on the wing?

dal9

second goal was a nice passing combo by MIA…third goal, jake davis gave a literal assist from midfield…shapi hasn’t done much that’s notable, but can’t say he was worse than salloi in the first two games

WonderfulWizHeWas

Not surprised. The difference in attacking quality between SKC and the top10 teams in MLS is massive. I’m holding out hope for the new signings, but if they are playing with an average to below average supporting cast their skills won’t shine through. Not to beat a dead horse, but the wings are just awful. Leibold and Davis were abysmal tonight. Thommy was his usual bull in a China shop self. A 66% pass accuracy, zero successful crosses or progressive passes, 25% dribble rate, dispossessed 3 times. Bartlett showed some quality, which was encouraging.

The highlight was not having to endure Salloi until late in the game. His only game has always been balls dumped over the top that he can run onto for a 1v1 with the keeper or lucking onto a ball that falls to him in a spot where he can get off a clean shot. Virtually everything good that happened for him in 2021 falls into those two categories. Watching him try to dribble defenders is comical. He is totally lost on the right wing.
