The Blue Turf: Comets win over Empire
A win and the next game

Erik Bergrud from the Kansas City Comets broadcast team and Thad Bell from the Kansas City Soccer Journal recorded the latest episode of The Blue Turf. We were not at the “World Famous” Kansas City Soccer Dome this week with a short turnaround and too many conflicts.
The Comets beat the Empire Strykers but it was not easy. Rian Marques scored twice with an assist and Kansas City captain Nacho Flores broke out and also scored a pair with an assist. Empire’s Marco Fabian was dangerous as always.
Empire employs a different style than other teams in MASL. They go all in to control possession, similar to a sixth attacker. How did Kansas City handle it? What changes did they make?
Next, the Comets travel to face the San Diego Sockers, a team next to the Comets in the standings. They will then return home to face Chihuahua. Erik previews the San Diego match for the listeners. Erik feels the Comets need to get a minimum number of points in the next two matches. How many and is he right?
When we recorded we did not know the last two All-Star picks the Commissioner made. The players for the game are all announced but the teams are still unknown.
