Across State Lines: KC Connections in The Soccer Tournament

Published

on

Starting tomorrow, The Soccer Tournament kicks off in Cary, North Carolina. The tournament, where the winning team will take home a $1million prize, will see thirty-two teams play in eight groups of four. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the knock out rounds. The tournament has a unique rule where the game always ends with a goal. Once the time runs out the winning team will only need to score one more goal to win. While the losing team can still win, but would need to score more. So if the score is 6-4, the winning team just needs to score one goal to reach seven and win. The losing team can still win but would need to score three goals without conceding to win.

Of the thirty-two teams competing, there are a number of players with Kansas City ties in the tournament. Ten teams have players who have played soccer in Kansas City. I’m not counting guys like Chad Johnson (Nati SC) and Kenny Cooper (Dallas United) who have trialed with Kansas City at one time or another. So if you’re looking for a rooting interest in the tournament, here are the teams with players with KC ties.

Charlotte FC: Heath Honold (ACA)
Conrad and Beasley United: Nick Besler (KC), Jimmy Conrad (SKC), Chris Konopka (SKC)
DMV Diplomats: Amobi Okugo (SKC)
Jackson TN Boom: AC Andy Metcalf (KC) Juan Anasco Arias (college-MNU)
