If you are anxiously waiting for Sporting Kansas City to return to the pitch, you won’t have to wait for long as the club announced its 2025 Major League Soccer schedule today. Next year, Sporting KC plays every Western Conference team twice – once home and once away – as well as six Eastern Conference teams to round out the 34 match schedule.

Starting off cold

It’s the earliest MLS start for Sporting KC in history as they open the league season on the road at Austin FC on February 22. This is four days after their CONCACAF Champions Cup matchup with Inter Miami, the earliest start in any competition for the club. Their MLS home opener will be March 1 against the San Jose Earthquakes, before which they will have traveled to Miami for the second leg of the Champions Cup.

The first of two 2024 matches against St. Louis City will be in Kansas City on April 5.

It May get congested

The busiest month of the season will be May as Sporting Kansas City plays seven league matches, including a brutal stretch traveling to Portland on May 10, to St. Louis City on May 14 then back out West for their inaugural match with San Diego FC on May 17.

Give me a break

The league has a reprieve from June 15-24 for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, taking place in the United States for the first time ever, and the 2025 Gold Cup. Sporting KC only play three matches in June – all at home – including their first ever match with Charlotte FC. Sporting KC will spend Independence Day in the mountains, taking on the Colorado Rapids away for the only match where fireworks are guaranteed.

Later in July there is a break in the league calendar from July 26-August 9 for the start of the Leagues Cup, which features clubs from MLS and Liga MX. Dates and groups for the 2025 edition are to be determined.

Closing in

Sporting Kansas City will end the season with eight straight matches against Western Conference opponents, potentially crucial matches if they are in the playoff hunt. Sporting KC get a week off in October between their penultimate match on the road against Minnesota United on October 4, before closing the season at home against the Houston Dynamo on October 18.
