Interesting early voting results. Folks are ready for Shelton if it means pushing Jake up into the midfield. And Daniel appears to have earned the start over Thommy. I did like the he was able to make runs that Thommy wasn’t. Our captain not in the starting line up? I’m starting to come around to that 442 idea with Thommy/sub Memo Radoja Manu Jake in the middle and Dejan/sub Agada Shapi/sub Salloi up front. Also I wanted a ’70 Olds 442 badly when I was a dirty hesher with a mullet, so there’s that. Seem like Toye and Afrifa might as well start looking for other teams as they’ll never see the light of day, right?

I’m a fan of Shelton at rb. He’s very strong and fast. If he’s going to be on this roster, it’s the only place he fits. He has the ability to smash long passes up the line. I’ve never seen a pro as tall as him so bad in the air. That reason keeps him from playing striker or cb. I hated on him hard at st. He actually looked like a pro soccer player at rb. Not flawless, just better than anywhere else on the pitch.

I watched Davis make two bone head moves last week playing people on. Shelton can’t get away with that, he’ll be benched if he does what Jake did. Davis is a part of the attack and we can’t have him running out from rb every time. Lock Shelton in to stay with the backline and let Logan Ndembe get forward. He lit it up in the playoffs before his injury. Would love to see that form again.

We all just want wins. None of us really cares who plays the hero.

Thommy just doesn’t fit this team IMO. It worked out in 2022 largely because nobody knew what to expect from him and Agada so they were able to combine a lot and open things up for other guys and in 2023 when he had competition in the form of Kinda he minded his positional ps and qs but last year when he was given the main job he was frequently the highest player up the pitch no matter where they asked him to play. He left no room for Salloi or Pulido so they both had to play deeper which plays to neither of their strengths. Now that he’s on the wing he likes to stay up high but he doesn’t know how to time runs in behind so he just hangs out even with the line and then tries to take everyone 1v1. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Salloi gets his second run of real minutes on the left wing with Garcia next to him and he sparks a comeback. He was trying to make the runs against SJ but they were sitting so deep there was really no space behind them to run into.

I think at this point Thommy needs to be used how Nashville used Hany Mukhtar in the last few seasons. Keep him up high with a striker and let him make moves off what the striker does without having to worry about the midfield having a big hole in it.
