What’s the deal with Arifa?

Michael

No idea. He was honestly one of Sporting’s best players last year per minute played. Now he doesn’t even make the bench?

InToTouch

Im cautiously pessimistic

Michael

Why does Bassong start in the midfield again? He’s offensively inept.

Joe Pacheco

We’d be better of putting him a right back and moving Jack to the midfield I think anyway.

WonderfulWizHeWas

If Davis is our best option at RB, it’s gonna be a long season. Defensively, he is not good at all. Going forward, at least he isn’t a liability at RB and sometimes carries the ball into dangerous areas. He is industrious in the midfield, which is the nicest thing I can say about him. I think people are high on him because he at least tries, kind of like Thommy. Neither is a difference-maker in MLS, but we want to cheer the best of what we have.

Cool assist though.

WonderfulWizHeWas

More of the same, same for the lineup. No imagination or new ideas from Vermes.

WonderfulWizHeWas

Vermes ideas for improvement: play harder. Play better.

WonderfulWizHeWas

How many turnovers in our own half have we had already this half?! Lazy passing.

Josh Wallace

While I like him, Shapi does not play quick enough for a wing player. At least tonight he looks like a black hole with the ball. Not quick with his decisions and is only willing to cut-in on his left. He has to at least take his defender down the line for some variety.

WonderfulWizHeWas

He has that one cut back at the top of the box where he should have just ripped a shot.

David in the Chat

Shapi is a one trick pony so far. Run down, cut back onto his left. Total inability to use the right foot.

Josh Wallace

Yeah, it’s going to get old very quickly. He doesn’t have the speed or power that Johnny Russell had so he’s going to be very limited in this team if he doesn’t add a right foot to his game.

I do agree that he needs to show some more variety in his attacks. To be fair, he has Bassong as the midfielder on his side of the field. The defense doesn’t need to pay any attention to Bassong so more focus is on Shapi.

Bassong has nothing to do with Shapi’s ineffectiveness. He only has the cutback. He can’t use his right so everything is with the outside of his left. He’s got to either be quick and decisive on the cut-in to get a shot off or he’s got to learn how to use his right foot.

Bassong isn’t the difference in his game.

WonderfulWizHeWas

If Benteke has a little more touch on his passes, it’s 0-2 right now. As a Liverpool fan, I can’t say I’m surprised, but SKC is lucky.

Michael

Neither team looked good in the attacking third.

WonderfulWizHeWas

Benteke’s physicality has both SKC’s centerbacks on yellows already.

Michael

I don’t think Rosero should have gotten a yellow for his foul, especially given the fact that the DC player could have easily gotten a yellow for his foul just seconds before. Fernandez kicks the ball away for his yellow. Just a boneheaded play on his part.

Both center backs on yellows for stupid s*** This team is something else!!!!

Josh Wallace

These yellow cards are so ridiculous and preventable. I like that we play with an edge but this feels so undisciplined.

Michael

Someone needs to press PV about his substitutions. Why does Bassong stay on the field when Sporting is chasing a goal? Why did Miller sub in instead of Voloder? Just makes 0 sense.

A&W

Agree Bassong makes no sense but Voloder is not an MLS caliber center back and he’s never improved with any amount of reps. He’s over. Time to see what you have in Miller.

Stu

I can’t watch 2023 and 2024 Sporting again

Michael

Well. One positive….the attendance at home games should be so low that the lines at the concession stands will be super small. I feel stupid to have kept my season tickets for this year.

Joe Pacheco

Got rid of mine. Definitely don’t regret it!!
