Across State Lines: Espinoza, Zusi Join The Soccer Tournament

Published

on

This summer, the second edition of The Soccer Tournament will kick off in Cary, NC. The tournament this year has expanded, with the men’s side this year featuring forty-eight teams while they’ve also added an eight team women’s bracket as well. The winners of the tournament will earn a $1 million payday for the tournament. Last year, current KC Comets player, Robert Palmer helped Newtown Pride FC win the prize money. This year, Palmer is back on Newtown as they try to repeat as winners. He’s joined on the team this year by two other Comets players in Lucas Sousa and Rian Marques.

Two of the bigger names for Kansas City soccer fans that will be competing this year are future Sporting Legends, Roger Espinoza and Graham Zusi. It was posted this week that Roger Espinoza will be competing this year in the tournament with the Wrexham Red Dragons in the tournament. Zusi will be competing this year with ZALA, who played in the tournament last year and is grouped with the defending champions, Newtown. There are a number of players with ties to KC in both brackets, and all the rosters haven’t been finalized, so there’s a chance that there are more players in the tournament as well. Here though is the current list of players with KC ties in the tournament.
