What We Want to Happen Today 10/14

Sporting KC and most of MLS is off this weekend with the international break ahead of Decision Day, but there are three games today, all rescheduled games from earlier this year. From a KC perspective though, only one of those three games has any effect on Sporting’s playoff hopes. Here’s a look at today’s three games and what KC fans want to happen.

Dallas vs Colorado
What We Want to Happen: Colorado win

FC Dallas sits one point ahead of KC currently in the standings. For KC to finish ahead of Dallas, they need Dallas to not win either of their final two games and KC needs to beat Minnesota United. If Dallas loses, it keeps the possibility alive that KC gets into the playoffs with a draw. Dallas needs to lose both of their final games for that to be possible for KC. The big thing KC doesn’t want out of this game is a Dallas win. A Dallas win and the best KC can is make the 8v9 play-in game.

Nashville vs New England
LA vs Salt Lake
What We Want to Happen: Does not matter

The other two games this weekend will have no effect on KC’s ability to make the playoffs, or even host a potential MLS Cup. Nashville SC and the New England Revolution both have more points than KC’s max point total of 44.

In the other game, Real Salt Lake already has more points than KC’s max, while the LA Galaxy can catch KC on points, but would lose out on a tie breaker as KC has more wins. If it comes to the tiebreaker though, that means KC lost to Minnesota and won’t be in the playoffs anyway.
