Across State Lines: Sauerbrunn to Miss World Cup

Published

on

Becky Sauerbrunn

The US Women’s National Team today announced their roster for this summer’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. While there are two players (Kristie Mewis and Lynn Williams) with Kansas City ties going with the USWNT, one that is not is the team’s captain, Becky Sauerbrunn. It was announced this week that Sauerbrunn will miss the World Cup with a foot injury that has limited her time with the Portland Thorns this season. It’s a blow for the former FC Kansas City defender and St. Louis native who hard participated in the last three World Cups for the US team. It’s also a blow for the team as there’s now a hole in the team’s defense that will need to be filled for the World Cup.

Here’s the rest of this week’s update.
