Well even if it’s not gonna be what we want, at least there is hope as both Jake and Thommy were introduced as midfielders (as God intended) at the SKC Block Party yesterday.

I just don’t see where Thommy fits on this team anymore. He’s looking lost on the wing, he proved all last year that he doesn’t work as an attacking mid for us in the 433 or the 4231, and the few times we tried to pair him with Kinda in the 433 in 2023, where Kinda was the focal point of the midfield, Thommy was a liability. Not sure what to do with him at this point.

He wasn’t a liability in 2023 while playing in the midfield with Kinda. Did you watch the Seattle game that started Sporting on the playoff run. May 7, 2023…Thommy scores the goal in the 4th minute and then assists on Pulido’s goal in the 31st minute. Kinda subbed out at halftime with the score 2-0. Sporting gave up a pk in the 66th minute but hung on to win 2-1. They also started and played 62 minutes together against Houston. The game where Johnny picked up a red card in the first half. Sporting won that game 2-1 also. I can’t remember them getting many more starts together in 2023, but Sporting was the best team in MLS for the rest of that season. Seems like something was working.

Our midfield for the playoff series against StL was Kinda, Walter, Radoja. We dominated. Thommy subbed into both.

i like Thommy. He’s a square peg on this team though.

If I recall correctly, it always felt like Thommy and Kinda were trying to take up the same space on the field, outside the 18 yard box and a little on the left.

Sure miss Kinda.

Michael

For both goals in the Seattle game, Thommy came in from the right side. When Johnny would cut inside, Thommy would go outside.

I predict it will make no sense and it will lose. I bet Memo starts at 8 and turns over the ball for the game loser.

I’m going to say it… someone needs to: Christmas Tree. Slaughter us on the wings, I dont care. I want this formation to exist.
Joveljic
Garcia – Thommy
Bartlett – Radoja – Davis
Ndenbe – Fernández – Rosero – Brody
Pulskamp

Let’s Goooooooooooo

Oh tanenbaum, oh tanenbaum! I don’t know the rest of the lyrics, but Thimmy probably does.

Tommy could be your AM, but so far it doesn’t look like Garcia is really going to push up into that space to receive a hold up ball from your striker Jovelvic. Bartlett and Davis do like to stick in tackles though so they might be your attack dog DMs in that tree. Davis can run forever. Bartlett gets a little beat but he’s a kid, he’ll survive. But can you imagine a Vermes team without a long-crossing ball to a winger?!
