Thad Bell from the Kansas City Soccer Journal is joined by Daniel Sperry from the KC Star to discuss the Kansas City Current and more. The Current have been active fleshing out their roster and continuing to lock in their players long term. Vlatko Andonovski and Caitlin Carducci have resigned popular veterans Elizabeth Ball and Kristen Hamilton. They traded for Haley Hopkins and also signed Chawinga to a contract extension.
It was a good bit of business by the Current since we last were able to record.
We discuss all of this and break it down. Where will Hopkins fit? Why are the Current smart enough to lock in contracts when a lot of NWSL teams are not doing that. Has that led to part of the exodus of players from the NWSL?
Also a bit of conversation on expansion and having a decent road trip for the Current in the future. Will Colorado be a a good home for the NWSL?
At the end, a heartfelt goodbye to a long-time Kansas City soccer community member. Jeff Husted has been on the communications staff of several amazing local teams. The Kansas City Comets, FC Kansas City and the Kansas City Current. He has taken a promotion and moved to Bay City where he will do well.

Happy about the contract extension of Chawinga and resigning of Hamilton and Ball. Interested to see what this does for roster numbers with trailists Tankerslay Boman, and Brewer. I know some of that correlates with SEI players Pfieffer, Robinson, and Bia. Any updates? Other than Bia being close?
I’m interested in how Hopkins fits in. I’d assume after seeing Tankerslay that Vlatko felt Hopkins was the best available Bia backup. I haven’t been blown away by her play in NC but hoping to be proven wrong here.
And this is random gossip but anyone notice Kayla Sharples got engaged…to former KC Chiefs great Trent Green’s son TJ? Apparently they knew each other from their Northwestern days. Congrats to them.
Cooper and Hutton on the She Believes roster. Hope they get capped.
Got my tickets for opening day. Gonna do the double with SKC.
